According to JETRO materials, ASEAN countries are advancing digital transformation (DX) in the healthcare sector as follows:
Singapore: As part of the national strategy, the "Smart Nation" initiative announced in 2014 and the "Industry Transformation Map" by the Future Economy Council in 2017 focus on healthcare. Initiatives include introducing innovative, patient-centered solutions and incorporating them into new hospital developments, supporting the digitalization of medical records by healthcare service providers, and integrating them into the national system.
Malaysia: The Ministry of Health launched the Malaysian Health Data Warehouse in 2017, an effort to aggregate data from all public and private medical facilities. There's a push to use electronic medical records (EMRs) that synchronize with the Malaysian Health Data Warehouse.
Thailand: The Ministry of Health formulated the "eHealth" strategy in 2017. Between 2017-2026, plans include developing medical robots, automated diagnostic devices, and biometric materials for cancer and allergies. In 2019, the Ministries of Science and Technology, Health, and Education announced the "Yothi Innovation District" plan to develop the area around Bangkok Soi Yothi as a medical innovation center.
Indonesia: The "Ministry of Health Strategic Plan 2020-2024" (2020) outlines digital-related measures for strengthening the healthcare system. Plans include expanding the online referral system and implementing telemedicine and EMRs. Vietnam: Prime Minister's Decision No. 749 (June 2020) details a plan to promote digitalization through smart hospitals (EMRs, electronic payments, etc.), online medical service platforms, and telemedicine.
Philippines: The "Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022" aims to realize universal healthcare. The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and the Ministry of Science and Technology, plans to enhance telemedicine in regions where physical access to medical care is limited.
At Healthcare Asia, we are initiating research to introduce mechanisms currently under discussion for DX in Japan, such as remote medical support between Japan and Vietnam at the clinic level, facial recognition for clinic registration, acceleration of accounting processes, and pharmaceutical delivery.
